Pratapgarh, August 6: The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, expressed profound sorrow on Thursday following the tragic collapse of a house in Pratapgarh district that resulted in the deaths of six individuals. He extended his condolences to the affected families.
In a message posted on the social media platform X, the Chief Minister stated, “The loss of lives in this unfortunate incident in Pratapgarh is extremely saddening. My sympathies are with the grieving families. I pray to Lord Shri Ram to grant eternal peace to the departed souls and wish a swift recovery for the injured.”
The incident occurred in the Maholi area of the Kotwali police station region during heavy rainfall early Thursday morning. A nearly 100-year-old house collapsed, claiming the lives of six members of the Srivastava family, while one person was injured.
According to police reports, all seven family members were sleeping in the same room when the structure suddenly gave way, trapping them under the debris. Rescue teams arrived promptly and initiated operations to extricate the victims. One individual was rescued alive and has been hospitalized for treatment.
District Magistrate Abhishek Pandey and Superintendent of Police Deepak Bhukar visited the site and met with the sole survivor, Aman Srivastava.
Speaking to the media, District Magistrate Pandey stated, “The house belonged to Pramod Srivastava. The ceiling of the room on the second floor was constructed using outdated building techniques. Preliminary investigations indicate that the roof, built with these old methods, collapsed. At the time of the incident, all seven family members were asleep in the room, which was equipped with an air conditioner.”
He added, “Out of the seven people sleeping in the room, six lost their lives. Aman survived and is currently under medical supervision. It is tragic that nearly an entire family has been wiped out in this single incident. We have been instructed to stand firmly with the family and provide all possible assistance.”
Pandey mentioned that he has spoken with Aman and assured him that all benefits and relief measures from the government would be made available within 24 hours.
In a heart-wrenching account, the injured Aman Srivastava recounted, “When I woke up, I realized I was trapped under the debris. I managed to escape and saw that all my family members were stuck. I tried to rescue them but was unsuccessful, so I began shouting for help. Family members, neighbors, and others gathered at the scene. All seven of us were sleeping in the same room. My parents, younger brother, wife, and our two small children were inside. I was saved, but they all perished.”
