Guwahati, August 6: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Wednesday that the state government has intensified relief and rehabilitation measures for families affected by recent floods. He revealed that new textbooks have been dispatched to all impacted districts, and financial assistance for students to purchase study materials will commence on Thursday.
After visiting the flood-affected areas, the Chief Minister stated that schools are set to reopen on August 10. Efforts are ongoing to ensure that students can resume their education without further disruptions.
In a post on the social media platform X, Chief Minister Sarma confirmed that new textbooks have already been sent to all affected districts, while uniforms are on the way. Financial aid for purchasing study materials will begin tomorrow, and schools will reopen on August 10, information he shared with his young friends.
The Chief Minister urged insurance companies to expedite the settlement of claims filed by flood victims, emphasizing that those who have suffered losses should receive assistance without unnecessary delays.
Sarma stressed that insurance companies should handle flood-related claims with urgency and empathy. He also reassured those without insurance coverage that the state government will provide all possible support in their recovery from the disaster. “Our government will stand firmly with those without insurance and offer every possible assistance,” he stated.
During his visit to the flood-affected villages, the Chief Minister engaged with residents who shared their experiences of loss and displacement due to the recent floods. Reflecting on these discussions, Sarma noted that he has personally addressed the concerns raised by affected families and reiterated the state government’s commitment to timely rehabilitation.
