Tehran, August 6: Negotiations between Iran and Oman to establish a secure commercial shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz are nearing completion. Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pajeskhian has described the current situation in the country as extremely challenging, citing escalating pressures from sanctions and military confrontations.
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance has also confirmed that the Iranian regime is fragmented, complicating the negotiation process between the two nations.
President Pajeskhian stated that the pressure from sanctions and conflict is intensifying, labeling the present circumstances as the most difficult since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
In an interview with state media on the second anniversary of his inauguration, Pajeskhian noted that sanctions have been steadily increasing, followed by military confrontations. He told the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), “The conditions we are facing now are the most challenging in the history post-revolution. Sanctions were imposed and have continued to escalate. When they were not satisfied, they initiated war.”
In the televised interview, the Iranian president asserted that external pressures aim to weaken public support for the government. He claimed, “Whatever plans they are devising and the pressures they are applying are intended to provoke public anger and, as they say, incite opposition.”
Pajeskhian also emphasized that national unity has helped Iran withstand these pressures, stating, “If we have survived until now, it is thanks to the good people of Iran.”
Vice President J.D. Vance made significant remarks regarding a potential agreement with Iran on Wednesday. He indicated that negotiations would not be straightforward and could take considerable time. According to Vance, the Iranian leadership is highly complex and fragmented, making the deal process challenging.
In an interview with Fox News on Wednesday evening, he said, “Our job is to handle this and achieve the best outcome for the American people and the President of the United States. Oil prices will drop and remain low. Iran will never possess nuclear weapons, and America will be in a strong position.”
Additionally, Iranian spokesperson Ismail Baghaei stated that there are no plans for any senior Iranian officials to visit Pakistan or Qatar this weekend.
According to a press release from the Iranian Foreign Ministry, an agreement has been reached on the geographical coordination of the proposed route between Iran and Oman, and they are finalizing a joint statement outlining the specific points agreed upon.
He mentioned that both countries have been discussing the proposed route for the past two months, during which Iranian officials have been reviewing technical, legal, security, and environmental aspects.
Baghaei added that military attacks from the U.S. and Israel against Iran had previously led to the closure of the Strait, impacting regional security.
