Tragic Food Poisoning Incident Claims Life of Child in Jharkhand

Ranchi, April 26: A tragic incident in Jharkhand’s Giridih district has resulted in the death of a six-year-old child due to food poisoning from contaminated golgappas and chole. Eighteen other children are currently battling for their lives.

The incident occurred in the Budhgaon area of the Muffasil police station jurisdiction, where 20 to 25 villagers fell ill after consuming the street food. Reports indicate that the number of sick individuals began to rise dramatically by Sunday evening. Ranjan Kumar, the six-year-old boy receiving treatment, succumbed to his condition after deteriorating rapidly.

According to sources, a street vendor selling golgappas and chole visited Budhgaon on Saturday evening. Many children and women consumed these food items. Just hours later, they began experiencing severe symptoms, including vomiting, diarrhea, and intense abdominal pain. By Sunday, the situation escalated, with more villagers falling ill.

Affected individuals were rushed to Giridih Sadar Hospital, where Ranjan Kumar’s condition worsened late Sunday evening, leading to his tragic death. Currently, 18 children and several other patients remain hospitalized, with many in critical condition. In response to the crisis, hospital authorities have issued an alert and deployed additional medical staff to ensure immediate and effective treatment for the patients. A team of doctors is continuously monitoring their conditions.

Family members reported that all those who fell ill had consumed the golgappas and chole from the vendor. Villagers believe the food was contaminated, leading to this unfortunate incident. Upon receiving news of the outbreak, Deputy Commissioner Ramnivas Yadav, along with Sadar SDM Shrikant Yashwant and SDPO Jitwahan Uraw, visited Giridih Sadar Hospital to assess the situation.

The Deputy Commissioner instructed the medical staff to provide adequate treatment to all patients and to avoid any negligence. A health department team is currently camped in Budhgaon, identifying individuals who have yet to seek medical attention. Meanwhile, the district administration has initiated a search for the street vendor. The food safety department has been directed to collect samples of the suspected food items for investigation to determine the cause of this incident.
