Tragic Fire Claims Life of Bus Helper in Delhi

New Delhi, February 9: A tragic incident occurred in the Dwarka area of Delhi, where a helper named Sunil lost his life in a devastating fire that engulfed a stationary bus.

The victim, identified as 25-year-old Sunil, was reportedly sleeping inside the bus at the time of the fire. Preliminary reports suggest that he lit incense sticks to ward off mosquitoes, which may have ignited the flames that quickly spread throughout the vehicle.

An official stated that the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) received notification of the fire early Monday morning. Fire engines were dispatched promptly to the scene after nearby residents noticed thick smoke and flames emanating from the bus. A video circulating on social media showed the bus engulfed in flames, with the fire rapidly consuming the entire vehicle.

Due to the intensity of the fire, Sunil allegedly had no chance to escape and became trapped inside. Local residents immediately alerted the police and fire brigade. Firefighters arrived and, after considerable effort, managed to extinguish the blaze. Once the fire was under control, Sunil’s charred body was discovered inside the bus and was sent to the hospital for an autopsy.

Authorities reported that the bus involved was a private vehicle registered in Haryana. It was reportedly new, having been on the road for only 28 days.

Investigators have launched an inquiry to determine the exact cause of the fire. The police are examining whether the flames were solely due to the incense sticks or if other technical malfunctions, such as potential electrical short circuits or fuel-related issues, contributed to the incident.

Earlier, on February 6, a fire broke out at a ground managed by NDMC near Safdarjung Airport, as reported by the Delhi Fire Service.

In another tragic fire-related incident, on January 7, a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) employee, along with his wife and their nine-year-old daughter, perished in a fire at a DMRC-allotted flat in Mukundpur, northwest Delhi.

The deceased were identified as Ajay Vimal (44), an assistant section engineer stationed at Barakhamba Metro Station, his wife Neelam Vimal (43), and their daughter Jahnvi. Ajay, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, joined DMRC in 2006 and moved into the Mukundpur flat in 2016.
