Kolkata, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari declared on Wednesday that anti-national forces and those who insult the ‘saffron’ will be eradicated from the state. His remarks came during the ‘Gerua Samman Yatra’ (Saffron Honor March) held in Kolkata, aimed at protesting anti-national slogans and graffiti at Jadavpur University (JU).
The rally commenced in South Kolkata at Golpark Crossing and concluded near the JU campus at 8B Bus Stand. Adhikari, dressed in a saffron kurta, led the procession, which included prominent figures such as Commerce and Industry Minister Tapas Roy and BJP MLA from Jadavpur, Sobha Mukhopadhyay, along with several saints.
At the rally’s conclusion, participants, including the Chief Minister, sang the national song ‘Vande Mataram‘ in its entirety. Following this, Adhikari delivered a brief speech, reiterating his commitment to eliminate anti-national elements and those who disrespect saffron. This is not the first time the Chief Minister has issued such warnings.
Last month, during a Raksha Bandhan event at the university, nearly 10,000 attendees also sang ‘Vande Mataram.’ At that time, Adhikari had expressed similar concerns. Jadavpur University has been in the spotlight recently due to clashes between student groups, including the CPI-M’s student wing, the Students Federation of India (SFI), and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), leading to protests and unrest on campus.
In response to these tensions, the BJP organized a protest outside Jadavpur University, which Adhikari addressed, emphasizing his determination to uphold national integrity and respect for saffron.
