
Purnia, June 17: Authorities reported that a tragic road accident occurred near the Barsoni Toll Plaza in Purnia district, Bihar, resulting in the death of a dumper truck driver and leaving his helper critically injured.
The incident took place on Tuesday night. Following the accident, fellow truck drivers staged a protest at the hospital, demanding compensation for the deceased driver’s family.
According to the injured helper, Usman Sheikh, the dumper was transporting stone chips from Pakur in Jharkhand to an airport construction site in Purnia. After unloading the cargo, the vehicle was returning to Pakur when a speeding container truck collided with it from behind near the toll plaza.
The impact was so severe that the front of the dumper was crushed, trapping both occupants inside the cabin. Local residents and police assisted in rescuing the injured individuals, who were then taken to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Purnia.
Unfortunately, the driver was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. The deceased has been identified as Mukaddar Hussain, a resident of Ajna village in Pakur district, Jharkhand. His helper, Usman Sheikh, from Ramchandrapur village, is now reported to be out of danger.
Following the news of the driver’s death, a large number of truck drivers and local residents gathered at the GMCH premises. They expressed their sorrow over the loss and urged the administration to provide adequate compensation and support to the bereaved family.
Police from the Dagrua police station arrived at the hospital after receiving news of the accident. They conducted an inquiry into the incident, sending the body for post-mortem and initiating an investigation into the cause of the collision.
Authorities are examining evidence and statements to determine the exact cause of the accident and any potential negligence involved. An FIR has been registered against the container truck driver under relevant sections for reckless and negligent driving, and efforts to apprehend him are ongoing.
