Koderma, August 14: A devastating accident occurred early Friday morning in Koderma district, Jharkhand, when a bus filled with pilgrims collided head-on with a truck. The crash resulted in the deaths of three individuals, while more than 50 others sustained injuries. The incident took place near the Pokharadiha turn in the Satgawan police station area. All the passengers on the bus were reported to be from the Rautahat district of Nepal.
According to reports, a group of devotees was returning to Rajgir after performing rituals at Deoghar and Basukinath. The accident happened when the Safari Travels bus collided with an oncoming truck at the Pokharadiha turn. The impact was so severe that the front of the bus was extensively damaged.
Upon receiving the news, the Satgawan police arrived at the scene. With the assistance of local residents, they managed to rescue the passengers trapped inside the bus. Police confirmed that three people lost their lives in the crash, including a 12-year-old boy named Shivam Kumar. The identities of the other deceased individuals are currently being verified.
Reports indicate that over 50 pilgrims were injured, with several in critical condition. All the injured were promptly transported to the Satgawan Community Health Center. After initial treatment, those with severe injuries were referred to Sadar Hospital in Koderma for advanced care.
A team of doctors is actively treating the injured at the hospital. Following the incident, administrative officials also arrived at the site to assess the relief and rescue operations. The police have begun the process of clearing the wrecked vehicles and restoring normal traffic flow.
Preliminary information suggests that high speed and poor visibility may have contributed to the accident. The region is currently enveloped in mourning following this tragic event involving returning pilgrims from the Shravan Yatra. The administration is in the process of identifying the deceased and notifying their families.
