Abu Dhabi, August 14: Local authorities and media reported that two tankers belonging to the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) were attacked while transiting through the Hormuz Strait on Thursday evening.
In a statement released on social media, the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attacks by Iran and emphasized the need for Iran to cease such actions.
The ministry highlighted that this attack is a blatant violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, which affirms the importance of freedom of navigation and rejects targeting commercial vessels or obstructing international maritime routes.
It stressed that targeting commercial ships and using the Hormuz Strait as a tool for economic pressure or blackmail constitutes acts of maritime piracy by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps. This poses a direct threat to regional stability, the safety of its people, and global energy security.
The ministry further stated, “The UAE insists that Iran must stop these unprovoked attacks, fully commit to ending all forms of hostility, and reopen the Hormuz Strait unconditionally to safeguard regional security.”
According to the state news agency Emirates News Agency, ADNOC confirmed that there were no reports of injuries and that the situation is under control.
In a statement, ADNOC emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of sailors, as well as maintaining freedom of navigation and maritime security.
