Tragic Collision in Gwalior Claims Five Lives from One Family

Gwalior, March 27: A high-speed Scorpio collided with an overloaded auto-rickshaw in the Thathipur area of Gwalior, resulting in the tragic deaths of five family members. The accident occurred around 3 AM near Jain Temple, just past the Parshuram Chauraha. The family of nine was returning home after offering prayers at the Sheetla Mata Temple, when the speeding Scorpio struck their auto-rickshaw violently.

The impact was so severe that the auto-rickshaw was thrown into the air for a few seconds before crashing into a neem tree by the roadside, leaving the passengers with no chance to escape.

The deceased have been identified as Shubham alias Lali (30), his father Mahesh Shakya, his wife Shagun, his uncle Indrajeet alias Pappu Shakya (55), his wife Leela (52), and his mother-in-law Preeti (60), all residents of Meerut. Among the injured are Preeti (20), a relative of Shubham; his two sons Priyansh (5) and Aarav (6); and another family member.

The auto-rickshaw driver sustained serious head injuries and remains in critical condition. All injured individuals have been admitted to a trauma center for treatment.

According to the police, the SUV driver was recklessly operating the vehicle and had previously collided with another car near the bus stand. Despite attempts by the police patrol team to stop the vehicle, it continued to speed away, eventually crashing into the auto-rickshaw and then a tree.

The driver, who was alone in the SUV, attempted to flee but was apprehended by local residents and handed over to the police.

City Superintendent of Police Atul Soni confirmed that the accident was caused by speeding and reckless driving. A case has been registered against the driver, and an investigation is underway to determine the role of intoxication or excessive speed in the incident.

The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem. This incident has shaken the residents of Suresh Nagar, Thathipur, and Murar. Many are raising concerns about the lax enforcement of traffic rules, particularly regarding overloaded auto-rickshaws and speeding near temples and busy intersections at night.
