Tragic Boiler Explosion at Vedanta Power Plant Claims Nine Lives in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, April 14: A catastrophic boiler explosion occurred at the Vedanta Power Plant located in Singhitrai, Sakti district, Chhattisgarh, on Tuesday afternoon. Reports indicate that nine individuals have lost their lives, while several others have sustained injuries.

Superintendent of Police Praful Thakur confirmed that the explosion resulted in nine fatalities and left 20 others injured. The injured have been admitted to hospitals for treatment, and their conditions are being monitored closely.

Many workers were caught in the blast, suffering severe burns. Among the injured, 18 have been hospitalized at Jindal Fortis Hospital, while three others were transferred to the Medical College Hospital in Raigarh.

In a statement to the media in Raipur, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed his condolences, calling the incident tragic. He assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted, and strict action would be taken against those responsible.

On social media platform X, the Chief Minister wrote, “The news of the devastating boiler explosion at the Vedanta Power Plant in Singhitrai, Sakti district, is extremely distressing. The reports of the loss of workers and injuries are deeply saddening. My heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved families. I pray that the souls of the departed find peace, and may God grant strength to the families to endure this unbearable grief. The district administration is on-site, and relief and rescue operations are underway. Necessary directions have been issued for the better treatment of the injured. A thorough and impartial investigation will be ensured, and strict action will be taken against anyone found culpable.”

One worker shared his experience, stating, “I work at the power plant, but I was not there at the time. My nephew was on duty and is currently hospitalized. The blast occurred at 3:20 PM. There were no facilities available to transport the injured to the hospital immediately.” He accused the contractor and officials of distancing themselves following the incident.

Former Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel reacted to the tragedy on social media, describing it as extremely painful. He wrote, “The news of the boiler blast at the Vedanta Power Plant in Sakti is deeply distressing. Reports indicate the sudden loss of workers and numerous others severely injured. May God grant peace to the departed souls and strength to the grieving families.” He urged the government to provide adequate compensation to the victims and ensure proper treatment for all the injured.

Congress leader T.S. Singh Deo also expressed his sorrow on X, stating, “The news of the tragic incident at the Vedanta Power Plant in Singhitrai is heartbreaking. Reports of the unfortunate deaths of several workers and serious injuries to many others are distressing. I pray that the souls of the departed find peace and that the affected families are given the strength to bear this sorrow.”
