Amritsar, April 18: In a significant blow to the narco-terror network, the Amritsar unit of the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) has arrested two individuals involved in cross-border drug trafficking. This operation aligns with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s initiative to rid the state of drugs.
During the operation, authorities seized 64.62 kilograms of heroin from the suspects.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sarwan Singh alias Gurjar from village Avan Vasa and Shamsher Singh alias Shera from village Dayal Rangar. The police also confiscated a Maruti Swift car used for trafficking.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav stated that initial investigations link this module to drug traffickers based in Pakistan and a handler operating from Portugal. He revealed that this network is connected to the notorious Pakistani trafficker Musa, who was implicated in a significant seizure of 532 kilograms of heroin at the Integrated Check Post in Atari in 2019. A thorough investigation is underway to uncover all connections within this network.
AIG Sukhminder Singh Mann of SSOC Amritsar provided details about the operation, noting that they received credible information indicating that the suspects had recently received a shipment of heroin delivered via drone from across the border. Acting on this intelligence, the police team swiftly intercepted the suspects near Mahal Bypass in Amritsar, leading to the recovery of the heroin.
The AIG mentioned that the suspects were lured by the promise of substantial profits from their handlers for this trafficking operation. As the investigation progresses, further arrests and additional recoveries from this network are anticipated.
An FIR has been registered under sections 21, 25, and 29 of the NDPS Act and relevant sections of the Indian Aircraft Act at the SSOC police station in Amritsar, initiating further legal proceedings.
