Tragic Bargi Cruise Incident: Search Intensifies for Four Missing, Including Three Children

Jabalpur, May 2: The rescue operation following the Bargi Dam cruise tragedy in Jabalpur district, Madhya Pradesh, has been significantly intensified. The incident occurred on Thursday evening when 41 people were aboard the cruise.

So far, nine fatalities have been confirmed, with four individuals still missing, including three children and one adult. Rescue teams and local authorities are tirelessly searching for them, but no success has been reported yet.

According to police and administrative sources, 28 individuals were safely rescued from the water shortly after the accident. These survivors are currently being interrogated to gather information about the final moments of the incident. Meanwhile, the search for the remaining missing persons continues.

Anjul Ayank Mishra, the Superintendent of Police for Jabalpur (Bargi Zone), stated in an interview that an information report has been filed under Section 174 of the CrPC. He emphasized that a detailed investigation will commence only after all bodies are recovered, prioritizing the search for the missing individuals.

Since the accident, teams comprising military divers, disaster relief squads, and local administration have been engaged in the rescue operation. The swift current of the river and the depth of the reservoir have posed significant challenges to the search efforts. Nevertheless, teams have expanded the search area to nearly five kilometers downstream to ensure no clues are overlooked.

The atmosphere in the area is somber, with families of the missing waiting by the riverbank for news of their loved ones. Their faces reflect a mix of hope and fear as they await updates. Amid the ongoing rescue operations, the primary focus remains on locating the missing individuals as quickly as possible.

Officials have indicated that a further investigation will be launched once all bodies are recovered, leading to the filing of an FIR. The inquiry will assess whether safety standards were adhered to on the boat, if there were too many passengers onboard, and whether essential safety measures, such as life jackets, were in place.
