Chennai, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : Ahead of the Vinayak Chaturthi celebrations, Chennai is ramping up security measures. The city police have deployed an additional 2,000 personnel and established 14 new checkpoints across various locations.
Vinayak Chaturthi will be celebrated nationwide on September 14. Hindu organizations, social welfare groups, resident associations, and local communities are busy arranging for the installation of Ganesha idols in public spaces throughout the city.
As preparations intensify, police have increased surveillance to ensure that the festival, processions, and idol immersions proceed peacefully. Security arrangements are being coordinated following the identification of idol installation sites, procession routes, and designated immersion locations.
To bolster security, the 14 new checkpoints will monitor vehicle movements and the transportation of idols and festival-related materials. Officers will also verify that the idols are set up only at authorized locations and in accordance with specified guidelines.
Organizers are expected to adhere to rules concerning the size and placement of idols, public safety, traffic flow, and the use of approved procession routes.
Police will closely monitor the immersion of idols, ensuring it occurs only at officially sanctioned sites. Traffic along procession routes will be regulated to prevent congestion and minimize inconvenience for residents and drivers.
Additional forces will be deployed in crowded markets, worship sites, major intersections, idol installation sites, and immersion locations. Special teams will manage traffic during processions, especially when large crowds of devotees are anticipated. Patrols and vehicle checks have also been intensified in sensitive and densely populated areas.
Police personnel have been instructed to remain vigilant and respond promptly to any incidents that could disrupt public order. Traffic adjustments and temporary restrictions may be implemented as necessary during the processions. Drivers are advised to cooperate with police officers and follow traffic directives.
Organizers of the festivities are urged to maintain coordination with local police stations and strictly follow the permissions granted to them.
