Tragic Accident Claims Life of Folk Artist in Rajasthan Resort During Storm

Jaipur, June 2: A tragic incident occurred on Monday night at the famous tourist destination of Sam in Rajasthan. During a severe storm and sandstorm, a wall of a heritage resort collapsed, resulting in the death of a folk artist and injuries to four others.

The accident took place while traditional Rajasthani cultural performances were being held for both domestic and international tourists. Eyewitnesses reported that strong winds and a sandstorm suddenly erupted, causing chaos at the resort. A large wall near the performance area collapsed due to the storm, burying the artists beneath the debris.

Ramzan Khan, a 27-year-old folk artist, died at the scene. Two female dancers and two other artists who were performing with him sustained serious injuries.

The Sam area of Jaisalmer is renowned for its sand dunes and folk culture events. Every evening during the tourist season, local music and dance performances are organized here. At the time of the incident, a cultural program was underway at the heritage resort.

Witnesses noted that within minutes, the wind speed increased dramatically, causing the temporary structures of the resort to shake violently. Suddenly, a large wall near the performance area fell, trapping the artists.

Local residents and resort staff immediately initiated rescue operations, clearing the debris to rescue the injured. Unfortunately, Ramzan Khan could not be saved due to severe injuries.

The injured artists were initially taken to the health center in Sam. After receiving first aid, they were referred to Jaisalmer District Hospital due to their critical condition.

Upon receiving news of the incident, police and administrative officials arrived at the site. Ramzan Khan’s body has been sent to the mortuary for post-mortem, and his family has been notified.

Authorities have begun an investigation to determine if negligence or poor construction quality contributed to the wall’s collapse.

This incident has raised concerns about the safety measures at tent camps and heritage resorts operating in Sam and the surrounding desert areas, which attract a large number of tourists each year.

Local artists and cultural organizations have expressed that while many resorts focus on traditional and heritage aesthetics to attract tourists, they often neglect the structural integrity and necessary safety measures against desert storms.

The death of Ramzan Khan has cast a pall over the folk artist community in Rajasthan. There are now calls for mandatory regular safety and structural inspections of resorts and tent camps in desert areas to prevent such tragedies in the future.
