Fatehpur, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : A devastating incident unfolded in Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh, on September 29, when a gas cylinder explosion caused a two-story house to collapse. The explosion claimed the lives of five individuals, including four brothers, while two others remain in critical condition. The victims, aged between six and 25, were identified as Kunal, Alok, Arpit, Ved, and Yash.
The explosion occurred around 5:30 PM at the home of local fruit trader Suresh, also known as Dhunnar Gupta. Reports suggest that a gas leak while cooking led to the blast, which was so powerful that its sound reverberated up to 500 meters away, damaging several nearby structures.
Emergency services were alerted shortly after the explosion. However, due to the narrow streets, fire trucks could not reach the site immediately. Rescue operations commenced with the help of a JCB to clear the debris. Around 16 police and fire brigade personnel, along with local volunteers, worked tirelessly to locate those trapped under the rubble. Seven individuals were rescued and transported to a medical college in Fatehpur, where five were pronounced dead.
Fatehpur’s Superintendent of Police, Abhimanyu Manglik, confirmed that seven people were successfully extricated from the debris. A forensic team has begun investigating the incident. Initial inquiries suggest that two gas cylinders exploded, but the exact cause of the blast remains undetermined. Teams from the forensic and fire departments are currently on-site conducting further investigations.
The explosion caused the complete collapse of the main building’s two floors and damaged the beams of surrounding houses, although no additional casualties were reported in those structures. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has also been called in to assist with rescue efforts.
In the aftermath, Suresh Gupta, the homeowner, suffered a shock from the incident and required medical attention. Police and administrative teams are on the ground, continuing to investigate the circumstances leading to the explosion.
