RailOne App Surpasses 47.6 Million Downloads, Achieves Record 1 Million Ticket Bookings Daily

New Delhi, August 13: The RailOne app has crossed an impressive milestone of 47.6 million downloads, with an average of 1 million tickets booked daily. Launched on July 1, 2025, the app aims to promote the digital purchase of reserved and unreserved tickets. It allows passengers to book tickets directly from their mobile phones.

The app consolidates all public services of Indian Railways, including reserved tickets, unreserved tickets, platform tickets, train inquiries, PNR checks, and rail assistance, all on a single platform. This convenience brings the reservation system right to the fingertips of travelers. The app features a single sign-on (SSO) option, enabling users to access multiple services without needing to download several applications or remember multiple passwords.

Since its inception in 2000, the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) has provided passengers with near real-time information about trains, including arrival/departure statuses and schedules. This information is accessible through various channels, including inquiry counters, the NTES website, mobile applications (Android and iOS), and the nationwide rail inquiry number 139. Key features include “Find My Train,” “Live Station,” “Train Schedule,” and “Trains Between Stations,” allowing travelers to obtain authentic and reliable information easily. As of August 1, 2026, the NTES mobile application has recorded over 45 million downloads on Android and more than 1.6 million on iOS. It currently manages around 80,000 users and processes over 60 million inquiries daily, receiving widespread appreciation from passengers.

The launch of the NTES has made accurate and near real-time train operation information readily available to passengers through various digital platforms, significantly reducing the need to visit railway inquiry counters. Consequently, the queues and waiting times at these counters have decreased substantially.

In cases of train cancellations, the online e-ticketing system, Next Generation E-Ticketing (NGET), automatically initiates the refund process immediately after the scheduled departure time, with the applicable refund credited to the passenger’s bank account. Currently, this automated refund feature is only available for e-tickets booked online and not for counter tickets. Passengers holding counter tickets must visit the nearest PRS counter for assistance.

RailOne is the official app of Indian Railways, providing a platform for all public services. It offers ticket booking for reserved, unreserved, and platform tickets, travel planning, train information, passenger assistance, and related railway services through a single mobile application.

Currently, approximately 89% of reserved tickets are booked online, a significant increase from about 49% in 2013-14. The number of unreserved tickets booked through means other than counters has also risen to nearly 39%.

This information was shared by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in response to a question in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
