RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra stated that after remaining below the central bank’s target of 4% for 16 consecutive months, retail inflation rose to 4.4% in June. He also mentioned that the inflation rate in the first quarter was 30 basis points lower than the RBI’s previous estimates, indicating limited pressure from input costs.
