Kolkata, March 6: The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) has raised concerns regarding the transparency and adherence to procedures related to the final publication of the voter list in West Bengal following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
In a letter addressed to the Chief Election Commissioner and the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal, the party highlighted that the final electoral roll for all 294 assembly constituencies was published on February 28, 2026, as per memo number 2496-HOME (ELECTRONIC). However, several discrepancies remain in the list.
According to directives from the Supreme Court, supplementary electoral rolls should be issued daily even after the final voter list is published. This is to ensure that eligible voters, based on judicial decisions, are included. The letter demands a clear notification stating that all voters included in the daily supplementary rolls will be considered part of the final voter list for the 2026 assembly elections.
The Supreme Court had exercised its special powers under Article 142, directing that if the verification process was not completed by February 28, the final list could be published, followed by supplementary lists. Voters included in these lists would be regarded as part of the final list, ensuring no eligible voter is left out.
Another significant issue raised in the letter pertains to the non-compliance with the rules for publishing daily supplementary rolls. The Supreme Court had issued clear instructions that supplementary lists, which include results from judicial adjudications, should be published daily. This is crucial for maintaining transparency and keeping voters and political parties informed about claims and objections. Claims, objections, and discrepancies related to voters added or removed should be addressed by competent judicial authorities.
While a dedicated portal for Judicial Officers (J.O.) has been created to upload verification details and adjudication records, the Election Commission has not provided any consolidated report, public disclosure, or accessible publication for public scrutiny. This lack of transparency is causing doubt among voters.
The SIR process has marked over 6 million cases as ‘under adjudication,’ while the total number of voters in the final list stands at approximately 64.4 million. Previously, the draft roll included 70.8 million voters, with over 6.1 million names removed during the process.
