TMC Leaders Stage Protest Outside Assembly Speakers Chamber in West Bengal

Kolkata, May 28: The political landscape in West Bengal has heated up once again. On Wednesday, the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, Shobhandeb Chattopadhyay, along with fellow TMC leader Kunal Ghosh, staged a protest outside the Assembly Speaker’s chamber. They claim they were ignored when they sought a meeting with the Speaker.

According to reports, both leaders aimed to discuss important issues with Speaker Rathindra Bose but were denied an audience. Frustrated by this, they decided to sit in protest outside the Speaker’s chamber to express their discontent.

During a media interaction, Shobhandeb Chattopadhyay stated that this situation is unacceptable. He alleged that the Speaker did not attempt to listen to their concerns and simply walked away.

Chattopadhyay remarked, “This is not a trivial matter. The Speaker did not try to hear us and started to leave. They were surrounded by CRPF personnel. Our workers were also present. Yet, they fled and bumped into a chair, almost falling. We remained silent.”

He further noted that previous Assembly Speakers, such as Biman Banerjee, Hashim Abdul Halim, and Apurba Lal Majumdar, did not face such issues during their tenures. According to him, the Assembly has always been a place for discussion and dialogue, where legislators come to express their views, whether positive or negative.

On the other hand, TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh also shared his perspective on the matter. He emphasized that Shobhandeb Chattopadhyay is a senior and experienced leader who had previously sent all necessary documents and letters. Despite this, he received no response. Ghosh also accused the government of not properly recognizing the position of the Leader of the Opposition and failing to provide necessary accommodations.
