TMC Candidate Ratna Chatterjee Denies Allegations Following FIR in Behala West Incident

Kolkata, April 6: An FIR has been filed against Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Ratna Chatterjee in connection with a disturbance at a BJP office in the Behala West assembly constituency. In response, Chatterjee has asserted her innocence, claiming she was not present during the incident and intends to contest the FIR legally. She alleged that her supporters were detained after BJP banners were damaged.

Chatterjee, who serves as a councilor for Ward 131 and is the TMC candidate for Behala West, stated that she had no involvement in the controversial incident. She accused others of tearing down her party’s banners. Upon learning of the damage, she arrived at the scene to find the banners vandalized. This led to unrest among TMC workers, resulting in a large gathering of supporters. During this time, damage was reportedly inflicted on banners displayed at the BJP office as well.

Furthermore, Chatterjee later discovered that several TMC workers had been taken into custody by the police in connection with the incident. She visited the police station to advocate for their release. Chatterjee claimed that CCTV footage presented by the police does not show her within a 10-kilometer radius of the event. Nevertheless, her name has been included in the FIR, which she insists is entirely erroneous.

In related news, TMC leaders have also responded to the issue of women’s reservation. Senior TMC leader Mawsam Noor from Malda emphasized the need to advance the Women’s Reservation Bill. She credited Sonia Gandhi for introducing the bill and stressed that it should not merely remain an electoral issue but should be implemented in reality.

Noor expressed her support for the bill as a woman, reminding that it has already been passed in the Rajya Sabha but has yet to be enacted. According to her, the Prime Minister is raising the issue due to the electoral climate, but until it is practically enforced, it will remain just a proposal. She called for the swift implementation of the bill to ensure more opportunities for women in politics and to enhance their participation.
