TMC Begins Relocation from Temporary Headquarters in Kolkata

Kolkata, June 17: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has commenced the process of vacating its temporary headquarters located in a rented building on the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass in East Kolkata.

The removal of items began on Tuesday night, with furniture and equipment being cleared from the first and second floors. The party is now expected to shift its headquarters to a new location.

Witnesses reported seeing several vehicles loaded with items parked in front of the TMC building since Tuesday night. These vehicles departed in the morning with the belongings.

The building, previously serving as TMC’s headquarters, belongs to Monotosh Saha, also known as Montu Saha. His company, Modern Decorating, had been responsible for staging all TMC events until the recent assembly elections. Notably, the stage for TMC’s ‘Shaheed Divas’ event on July 21 in Esplanade, Central Kolkata, was also constructed by Modern Decorating.

However, following the assembly election results, the relationship between Montu and TMC soured. Montu requested the party leaders to vacate the building and clear the floors, claiming that TMC had not complied despite repeated requests.

Earlier, Montu had mentioned that he contacted the Pragati Maidan police station regarding this matter. Subsequently, TMC’s Beleghata MLA Kunal Ghosh and state president Chandrima Bhattacharya also visited the police station, where they submitted rental receipts and other documents. According to TMC sources, there was an agreement for the party to use the building until 2027. However, following TMC’s defeat in the assembly elections, Montu changed his stance.

The first floor of the building was used for seating party workers from the district, while the second floor housed a media center. The removal of chairs, tables, flex banners, and backdrops from these two floors began last night.

After the 2021 assembly elections, demolition and construction of a new building began at the old TMC site on the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass in the North Panchanangram area. Since then, this five-story building has been utilized as a temporary TMC headquarters.

Meanwhile, renovations of the old TMC building are still incomplete. Speculations suggest that the TMC headquarters may be temporarily relocated elsewhere.
