Indian Experts to Discuss Global Issues at Primakov Forum in Moscow

Moscow, June 17: The 12th edition of Russia’s prominent international platform, the “Primakov Readings International Forum,” is set to take place next week in Moscow. This year’s theme is “World Without Rules: Power Game?” During this two-day event, six Indian experts will share their insights on various issues.

Scheduled for June 23 and 24, the forum will feature a keynote address by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Other notable attendees include Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian President, Konstantin Kosachev, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council, and numerous Russian and foreign experts in international security, global politics, and economics, alongside representatives from public organizations, politicians, and diplomats.

The six Indian experts participating in the forum are Manjeet Kripalani (Director, Gateway House: Indian Council on Global Relations), Samir Saran (President, Observer Research Foundation), Shishir Priyadarshi (President, Chintan Research Foundation and former Director at the World Trade Organization from 2007 to 2022), Pankaj Saran (Convener, NATSSTRAT, National Security Advisory Board), Arvind Gupta (Head, Digital India Foundation), and Lieutenant General Dushyant Singh (Director General, Center for Land Warfare Studies). They will address various sessions.

Topics of discussion will include the “Global Impact of Regional Conflicts,” “Prospects for Global Order by Mid-Century,” “Challenges and Risks in Global Trade and Investment,” “Eurasian Security 2035: CSTO Presidency,” “Global Competition in AI and Digital Platforms,” and “A New Era of Military-Technical Competition.”

According to the organizers, the primary aim of this forum is to discuss significant challenges facing global politics and economics. Key issues will focus on the global ramifications of regional conflicts, domestic aspects of U.S. foreign policy, the Middle East conflict and its evolving nature, emerging global order, risks associated with trade and investment, Eurasian security during Russia’s CSTO presidency, AI-driven international competition, and the new arms race in military technology.

Experts will also explore the potential for reducing tensions in the Middle East, opportunities for establishing a new regional security framework, and the role of non-Western countries in stabilizing the region.

Additionally, discussions will address the implications of the New START treaty’s expiration, the threats posed by the weakening of arms control arrangements, and how new military technologies could impact global strategic stability amid a rapidly escalating arms race.

One of the organizers, Alexander Dinkin, President of the Institute of International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IMEMO), stated, “The rules-based liberal global order has faced severe and justified criticism in Russia and around the world. Between 2022 and 2026, this order has gradually become part of history. Today, we are witnessing the disintegration of the global political and economic framework and the near-total dominance of power in the field of international security.”

Around 50 experts from nearly 20 countries, including India, the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, China, Turkey, Qatar, Iran, South Korea, and Uzbekistan, will participate in the forum, with the Indian delegation being the largest foreign group.

Furthermore, over 400 scientists, experts, government officials, and business leaders from Russia and other countries are expected to attend this event.
