New Delhi, December 2: Indian batsman Tilak Varma has credited players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, along with head coach Gautam Gambhir, for his success. He believes that having ‘Ro-Ko’ in the team brings a completely different level of confidence.

India scored 349 runs for 8 wickets in the first ODI match played at JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi on November 30, thanks to brilliant innings by Virat Kohli (135), Rohit Sharma (57), and captain KL Rahul (60). In response, the South African team was bowled out for just 332 runs in 49.2 overs. Team India won this match by 17 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Speaking to GeoStar, Tilak Varma shared his preference for longer formats and the impact of senior players, saying, “ODI and Test are my favourite formats. I am very excited to play more ODI matches. When Rohit bhai and Virat bhai are in the same team, the confidence is completely different. They have a lot of experience. I try to seek as much advice as possible from them to improve my performance. I talk a lot with Virat bhai, especially about fitness and running between wickets. He runs very fast between wickets. I also like running. If we play together, running between wickets with him is something I look forward to.”

About the guidance received from head coach Gautam Gambhir, Tilak Varma said, “Gautam sir always boosts my confidence. He tells me that if you have the skill, you can play all formats. You can do well in all formats. He puts pressure on me in practice sessions so that I can learn how to handle pressure in matches. He keeps challenging me because he feels I have the ability. His support means a lot to me.”

Tilak Varma was not given a chance in the first ODI match against South Africa. Now the second match of the series between both countries will be played on Wednesday. Regarding the ongoing ODI series against South Africa, Tilak Varma said, “Whatever opportunities I get against South Africa, I want to finish those matches. I want to prove myself in ODI and Test as well. I am challenging myself to do well in longer formats and move forward as an individual player.”
