Weather Systems

Bhopal, 22 August (Kiran News). The weather in Madhya Pradesh has changed once again, with three weather systems currently active across the state. As a result, almost the entire state is witnessing continuous rainfall, with varying intensities from light to heavy. A monsoon trough is passing through the northern and western regions, another through the central part, and a cyclonic circulation is active in southern Madhya Pradesh. Due to these systems, the sky remains cloudy, and rain is occurring in several places. The India Meteorological Department has issued rain alerts for many districts over the next four days.

Weather Systems

On Thursday, significant rainfall was recorded in Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, and 26 other districts. Shivpuri received the highest, with more than 1 inch of rain. Guna and Ratlam recorded nearly 1 inch, Sagar three-quarters of an inch, and Bhopal, Mandla, and Raisen half an inch each. Rain was also registered in Betul, Datia, Gwalior, Narmadapuram, Indore, Pachmarhi, Shajapur, Umaria, Chhindwara, Damoh, Rewa, Satna, and Malajkhand. This season, rainfall has been above normal, with Madhya Pradesh recording an average of 33.1 inches since the monsoon’s arrival on June 16, compared to the normal 27 inches for this period—6.1 inches more than usual. The state’s annual average rainfall is about 37 inches, of which 89 percent has already occurred.

Reviewing the divisions, Jabalpur, Rewa, Sagar, and Shahdol in eastern Madhya Pradesh have received good rainfall. Some districts, including Chhatarpur, Mandla, Tikamgarh, and Umaria, experienced flood-like conditions. The monsoon has also been very active in the Gwalior-Chambal region, with seven out of eight districts exceeding their quotas. In contrast, Indore and Ujjain divisions have seen less monsoon activity, with only six out of fifteen districts reaching even half their expected rainfall, raising concerns among farmers and local administration.

On Friday, the Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for extremely heavy rainfall in Sheopur, Mandsaur, and Neemuch districts, forecasting up to 8.5 inches of rain in the next 24 hours. A yellow alert for heavy rain was also declared for Gwalior, Morena, Bhind, Datia, Niwari, Shivpuri, Guna, Ashoknagar, Rajgarh, Ratlam, Agar-Malwa, Anuppur, Dindori, Mandla, and Balaghat. Other districts are expected to see light to moderate rainfall.

According to meteorologist Shivang Bakode, moderate rain with lightning is likely in Balaghat, Pandhurna, Sidhi, Singrauli, Rewa, Chitrakoot, and northern Panna. Light rain is expected in Mauganj, Satna, Maihar, Chhatarpur, southern Panna, Niwari, Shahdol, Anuppur, Dindori, Mandla, Seoni, Chhindwara, Betul, Burhanpur, Khandwa, and Khargone. The three active systems are likely to continue influencing the state for the next four to five days, with one trough extending from Datia and Sidhi to the Bay of Bengal, another passing through central Madhya Pradesh, and a cyclonic circulation in the south affecting monsoon speed and direction.

The department has also issued alerts for the coming days. On 23 August, a yellow alert for heavy rain has been issued for Neemuch, Guna, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, Sheopur, Morena, Gwalior, Datia, Niwari, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Sagar, Damoh, Panna, Satna, Rewa, Mauganj, Sidhi, Singrauli, Shahdol, Anuppur, Dindori, Mandla, Seoni, and Balaghat.
