Bharuch, July 15: Three police officers stationed in Bharuch district, Gujarat, were caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹1 lakh in exchange for returning a seized mobile phone related to a prohibition case.
According to the ACB, the complainant, a vigilant citizen, had been charged under the Prohibition Act at the Panoli police station. After undergoing legal proceedings, he was sent to a sub-jail. Following his release on bail, he visited the police station to retrieve his mobile phone.
The complaint states that Assistant Head Constables Aniruddh Dhadhal and Jaydeep Singh Parmar initially demanded ₹3 lakh for the phone’s return. When the complainant indicated he could not arrange the full amount at once, Dhadhal allegedly agreed to accept the payment in three installments of ₹1 lakh each.
Instead of making the first installment, the complainant contacted the ACB. Subsequently, the ACB set up a trap in a container designated as the “D Staff” room located in front of the Panoli police station.
During the operation, the complainant followed the pre-arranged plan and spoke with Dhadhal. It is alleged that Dhadhal instructed him to hand over the money to Lok Rakshak police constable Sagar Chavda. As soon as Chavda accepted the ₹1 lakh, the ACB apprehended him and seized the amount.
The ACB claims that all three accused were colluding to accept bribes.
Officials report that Aniruddh Dhadhal is currently stationed at the Ankleshwar police line and is originally from Rajkot district. Sagar Chavda is assigned to the Panoli police station and hails from Bhavnagar district, while Jaydeep Singh Parmar is also stationed at the Ankleshwar police line and is originally from Surendranagar district.
This incident marks the latest in a series of anti-corruption actions against police personnel in Gujarat in recent days.
