Colombo, August 8: In a three-day warm-up match between India and Sri Lanka cricket elevens, left-handed batsman Devdutt Padikkal showcased his talent by scoring a century on the second day of the match. After his impressive innings, he was retired hurt to allow other batsmen a chance to play.
Padikkal, batting at number three, performed according to the One Day International format. He scored 103 runs off 121 balls, hitting 14 boundaries. Following this remarkable performance, he was called back by the Indian team management to give other players an opportunity.
Opening the innings for India were Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul. Unfortunately, Jaiswal failed to get off the mark, getting out on the second ball of the innings to Vishwa Fernando. Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant also struggled, scoring just 2 runs before being dismissed. Dhruv Jurel followed suit, managing only 1 run.
As of the latest report, India has scored 199 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in their first innings, having batted 54 overs. Ravindra Jadeja, who came in at number four, is currently at the crease with 46 runs, while Manav Suthar has contributed 5 runs.
Earlier in the day, Sri Lanka XI declared their first innings at 363 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. Nishan Madushanka and Ravindu Rasanjana set the tone with a 110-run partnership for the first wicket. Madushanka scored 66 runs, hitting 11 fours and 1 six, while Rasanjana contributed 71 runs. Other notable performances included Pasindu Sooryabandara with 35 runs, Pawan Rathnayake with 39 runs, Ahan Vikramasinghe with 31 runs, and captain Sonal Dinusha with 52 runs. Ramesh Mendis also chipped in with 32 runs, helping Sri Lanka reach a total of 363 runs.
