Nitish Reddy Out of Ireland and England T20 Series; Suryaansh Shedge Gets First Call-Up to Team India

Mumbai, June 23: The Indian cricket team has faced a significant setback ahead of the T20 series against Ireland and England. All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of both series due to injury. In his place, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has included Suryaansh Shedge in the squad, marking his first call-up to the national team.

The BCCI announced that Nitish sustained his injury during the recent ODI series against Afghanistan, which has led to his absence from the upcoming T20 matches.

The men’s selection committee confirmed that Suryaansh Shedge will replace Nitish Kumar Reddy for the T20 series against Ireland and England. Nitish reported discomfort in his left quadriceps after the third ODI against Afghanistan on June 20. Following a medical evaluation, the BCCI’s medical team recommended rehabilitation.

Nitish’s withdrawal is a significant blow to the Indian team, which is already missing star all-rounder Hardik Pandya for the Ireland and England series due to injury.

In its statement, the BCCI noted, “Suryaansh earned this opportunity following his impressive performance for India A in the recently concluded tri-series in Sri Lanka. The 23-year-old batsman scored 147 runs and took 2 wickets across five matches while batting in the middle order. He also excelled in the 2024-25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign in Mumbai, scoring 131 runs at a strike rate of 251.92.”

Following this performance, Suryaansh Shedge was signed by Punjab Kings for IPL 2025. In IPL 2026, he scored 158 runs at a strike rate of 175.55 in seven matches.
