Kingston, August 16: In an electrifying match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), the Jamaica Kingsmen secured their first victory of the season by defeating the Trinbago Knight Riders by 5 wickets.
Played at Sabina Park, Trinbago set a challenging target of 183 runs for Jamaica. However, Jamaica’s opener Kirk McKenzie made the chase look easy with his explosive batting. McKenzie scored 69 runs off just 25 balls, hitting 6 sixes and 6 fours. He formed a crucial partnership of 93 runs for the first wicket with Riza Hendricks, who contributed 37 runs off 29 balls. Captain Rovman Powell also played a vital role, scoring 29 runs off 22 balls, helping the team reach 183 runs in 18.4 overs with 5 wickets in hand. Andre Russell added 27 runs off 15 balls, including 2 sixes and 3 fours.
For Trinbago, Usman Tariq took 3 wickets, while Terrance Hinds and Kieron Pollard claimed 1 wicket each.
Earlier, Trinbago Knight Riders batted first after losing the toss, scoring 182 runs for 6 wickets in their 20 overs. Captain and wicketkeeper Nicholas Pooran top-scored with 44 runs off 32 balls, hitting 4 sixes and 1 four. Kieron Pollard also made 44 runs off 22 balls, while Alex Hales added 29 runs. Sunil Narine finished the innings with an unbeaten 19 runs off 8 balls, including 1 six and 2 fours.
