
Pune, May 18: Pune police have apprehended two Bangladeshi women and a minor in a significant operation. They were attempting to escape to Guwahati, Assam.
The arrests took place at Pune Airport as part of an ongoing campaign against illegal immigrants residing in the city.
Acting on specific intelligence, teams from Khadak police station, Vimannagar police station, and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) collaborated for this operation.
This action followed directives from Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, urging all police stations to take stringent measures against foreign nationals living illegally in the city.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Krishikesh Rawle received information that two women and a male Bangladeshi national were set to board a flight from Pune to Guwahati.
Upon receiving this tip-off, Senior Police Inspector Shashikant Chavan promptly dispatched Sub-Inspector Mahendra Kamble and the investigation team to the airport.
The team from Vimannagar police station, along with CISF officer Santosh Kumar Agnihotri’s team, laid a trap and successfully apprehended the trio.
They had traveled from Solapur to Pune and were preparing to leave the state to evade capture.
Initial inquiries identified them as 42-year-old Shahinur Begum Sheikh, 28-year-old Shagurika Begum Yulia Sheikh, and 16-year-old Topu, also known as Murad Ahmed Sheikh.
All three are originally from Bangladesh and were residing illegally in India.
They have been handed over to Vimannagar police station for further questioning and legal action.
This operation was conducted under the supervision of Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Joint Police Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Additional Police Commissioner Rajesh Bansod, DCP Krishikesh Rawle, and Assistant Police Commissioner Anuja Deshmane.
This arrest marks another significant step in Pune police’s campaign against illegal immigrants. According to official data, Pune police have arrested a total of 97 Bangladeshi nationals in the past ten and a half months.
