New Delhi, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : Neem Karoli Baba is synonymous with Kainchi Dham, nestled in the hills of Uttarakhand. This ashram has become a major spiritual center for his devotees, attracting followers from around the globe. However, Baba’s journey did not end there; his final chapter unfolded in Vrindavan, where he left his physical form on September 11, 1973, and where his samadhi is located today.
Kainchi Dham, situated in Nainital district, is renowned as a significant place of meditation and service. Baba cultivated an environment here that has drawn people from both India and abroad. Today, it holds immense importance for his followers.
Baba’s identity is closely linked to his simple lifestyle and the blanket he often wore, earning him the affectionate nickname “Kambal Wale Baba.” He had a unique way of conveying profound life lessons in simple terms rather than grandiose speeches. His teachings emphasized love and service, principles that his followers strive to incorporate into their lives. Spirituality and a sense of service remain central to the experience of those visiting his ashrams.
Over time, the fame of Kainchi Dham has spread beyond India, particularly influencing many in the United States and other countries. Notable figures such as Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple, and Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder of Facebook, have been associated with discussions about Baba’s teachings.
While Kainchi Dham serves as Baba’s meditation site, his main samadhi is located in Vrindavan, a city deeply intertwined with the devotion to Lord Hanuman. Vrindavan holds a significant place in Indian spiritual tradition, known as the land of saints and seekers, and is famously associated with Lord Krishna.
In September 1973, Baba’s health began to decline. He traveled towards Agra, but his condition worsened unexpectedly. Reports indicate that he was brought to Vrindavan by train and taken to the Ramakrishna Mission Hospital for treatment, but unfortunately, the doctors were unable to save him.
On September 11, 1973, Neem Karoli Baba passed away in Vrindavan. His followers regard this not as a mere death, but as a “Mahasamadhi.” His final journey was completed in the very city where he had long established a spiritual connection.
