Dhaka, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : Bangladesh police have apprehended at least 70 foreign nationals, including citizens from China, Pakistan, and Vietnam, in a significant operation in the Khulshi area of Chattogram. This raid took place on the night of September 11, 2026, targeting a building allegedly rented for conducting online scams and gambling activities.
The operation, which lasted several hours, resulted in the seizure of laptops, mobile phones, and various electronic devices. According to Mo. Abdur Rahim, the officer in charge of Khulshi police station, the foreign nationals had fully rented the building. Many of those detained claimed to have arrived in Bangladesh on a visa-on-arrival basis approximately six weeks prior.
Local reports indicate that police are investigating whether the detained individuals possess valid passports and visas, and if any were residing in Bangladesh for work-related purposes. Authorities are also confirming their identities, nationalities, and potential connections to the alleged activities.
A source linked to the operation revealed to the “Times of Bangladesh” that law enforcement agencies had previously received information regarding the frequent movement of foreign nationals, large financial transactions, and suspected casino-like activities at the location. However, police have not officially confirmed these allegations.
This crackdown follows a recent raid at a hotel in Cox’s Bazar, where six individuals, including five Chinese and one Taiwanese national, were arrested. Investigators suspect that these incidents may be linked to one of the largest organized cyber-fraud operations in the country.
Reports indicate that the six suspects face charges of online fraud and cybercrime and were remanded to jail after appearing in court on September 4. During that raid, authorities confiscated nearly 2,000 iPhones, numerous laptops and desktop computers, and discovered a facility allegedly designed for managing hundreds of online identities.
