The Contrast Between Congress Rule and Todays Assam: Rupam Goswami

Guwahati, April 2: BJP leader Rupam Goswami has criticized Congress, stating they have nothing substantial to say. He highlighted the foundation and inauguration of the bridge in North Guwahati, emphasizing BJP’s achievements.

Goswami remarked that Congress is confused and will not receive respect even as the opposition leader this time. He pointed out that from 2001 to 2015, Assam witnessed 1,010 bomb blasts and 471 riots, resulting in numerous civilian deaths during Congress’s decade-long rule. In contrast, he noted that since 2019, there have been no fatalities in any unfortunate incidents under BJP governance.

He questioned the audience, asking if they have noticed the significant difference between Assam then and Assam today.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on Wednesday that the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) is unlikely to receive electoral support in Assam. He emphasized that the regional sentiments of the state’s voters do not align with any ‘external’ political party.

While addressing journalists during an election campaign in Duliajan, Sarma mentioned that JMM’s identity does not resonate with the people of Assam. He asserted that voters will not support JMM, suggesting that if the party were named ‘Assam Mukti Morcha,’ the situation might be different. His comments were a jab at the party’s presence in the state.

Sarma urged Congress to remove references related to ‘justice’ for Jubin Garg from their manifesto, labeling the move as inappropriate and insensitive. These remarks come amid escalating political rhetoric ahead of the Assam Assembly elections, where political parties are sharpening their electoral issues and targeting opponents on ideological and regional matters.

The Chief Minister reiterated that BJP is confident of securing a strong mandate in the upcoming elections, citing the party’s development agenda and its engagement with grassroots voters.
