Tharu Culture: A Pride of Uttarakhand, Says CM Dhami

Dehradun, March 19: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami addressed the Tharu Holi Mahotsav held in Khatima via virtual means from his residence. He expressed regret for not being able to attend in person due to administrative commitments and greeted the community present at the event.

In his speech, CM Dhami highlighted the rich and glorious cultural traditions of the Tharu community. He noted that their customs, folk songs, traditional dances, and deep connection with nature are invaluable heritage for the state. He emphasized that Tharu culture is a matter of pride not just for Khatima but for all of Uttarakhand. The Tharu community’s Holi celebration, known for its uniqueness, is celebrated with joy and enthusiasm over several days.

The Chief Minister stated that such events not only preserve cultural heritage but also play a crucial role in connecting the younger generation with their traditions and values. He expressed that his heart is always with the people of Khatima, despite his absence from the event.

He mentioned that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the state government is committed to the holistic development of tribal communities. Various schemes are being implemented to empower these communities in education, health, employment, and basic facilities. The Atal Housing Scheme has been revised to increase construction costs, benefiting more families. Significant financial assistance has been provided under this scheme in Udham Singh Nagar.

CM Dhami also noted that many tribal families have been provided housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin), with approximately 28% of this year’s applications coming from tribal families. Several houses have been constructed in the district under the Pradhan Mantri Janman Awas Yojana.

He highlighted the efforts in education, stating that funds are being allocated for the development of Ashram schools, hostels, and ITI institutions, with upgrades to class 12 being implemented. Quality education is being provided to tribal children through Eklavya Model Residential Schools. Significant work is underway for the development of hostels and educational infrastructure in Khatima, Bajpur, and Gadarpur.

The Chief Minister affirmed that the National Rural Livelihood Mission is providing employment and training opportunities to empower tribal women. Economic empowerment is being promoted by connecting products to markets through Van Dhan Kendras. Women are being encouraged in self-employment through cyclical funds and investment support.

He reported that numerous schemes have been successfully completed under the Chief Minister’s Marginal Area Development Program, providing thousands of families with drinking water, electricity, and gas connections. Funds have also been approved for the construction of the Tharu Development Building and for developing basic facilities in tribal areas.

CM Dhami stated that the government is providing financial assistance to tribal families for daughters’ marriages, benefiting many. He mentioned that tribal welfare officers have been appointed in various districts to accelerate the development of tribal areas.

Dhami emphasized that the state government is not limited to announcing schemes but is actively working to bring real change on the ground. The goal is to ensure that every tribal family lives with dignity, children receive quality education, and youth have employment opportunities.

He accused previous governments of neglecting the tribal community and affirmed the current government’s commitment to protecting their dignity and rights. He pointed out that the Prime Minister’s declaration of Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary as ‘Tribal Pride Day’ symbolizes respect for the tribal community.

CM Dhami reiterated his commitment to the comprehensive development of the Tharu community and expressed hope for public support. He is confident that with the people’s backing, Uttarakhand will achieve its goal of becoming the best state in the country.
