Kolkata, August 2: West Bengal Minister Dilip Ghosh responded to the arrest of suspected terrorist Hamim Mandal, linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed, by the STF. He highlighted that social media and the internet have made it easier for terrorist networks to form. The police utilized digital platforms to apprehend the suspects, uncovering connections to Dubai and Pakistan during the investigation.
Ghosh stated, “The Jaish-e-Mohammed module has been active for some time. There have been reports about its activities before. The police have made arrests, and the investigation will reveal who else is connected to this module and how extensive its network is. A thorough investigation will bring the truth to light. There is a strong possibility that its links are tied to Pakistan.”
He emphasized, “Today, electronic communication, social media, and the internet have made it very easy for people to connect. It was through these digital means that the police were able to locate and arrest the suspects. The reports of connections to Dubai and Pakistan are now part of the investigation. It would be premature to say that the entire network will be exposed immediately.”
On the occasion of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari granting citizenship certificates to 300 Matua individuals, Ghosh remarked, “The SIR process began before the CAA. The aim of the CAA is to provide Indian citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, and other specific minority communities from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan who have faced persecution. The implementation of the CAA in West Bengal had previously stalled, preventing many eligible individuals from benefiting. Now, the government has initiated this process and is moving forward with its implementation.”
He criticized Mamata Banerjee, stating, “The census was not allowed to take place. It is happening after 15 years. It began nationwide in June 2025. However, it was obstructed in West Bengal because fake voters were retained on the voter list, and the conspiracy was to win elections using their votes. After our government came to power, it was implemented in the very first meeting. The census has now commenced.”
Ghosh also commented on the protests at Jantar Mantar, stating that those who used offensive language against the Prime Minister should apologize.
He attacked the opposition, saying, “It is very easy to incite and mislead the youth and students. The activists and communists here repeatedly do this. Foreign forces are also involved. Hundreds of crores come from abroad, inciting these children. They are protesting and facing police action, while others are partying in five-star hotels. This has all come to light. The youth they misled into such wrongful activities are still young. Even the court has pardoned them.”
Additionally, he praised India’s performance at the Commonwealth Games, stating, “In recent years, India’s performance in sports has consistently improved. Under the government’s ‘Khelo India’ initiative, children in villages, schools, and colleges are being identified, trained, and prepared for competitive sports. Neeraj Chopra won a gold medal after training abroad. In wrestling and boxing, sports where India has traditionally excelled, the results are even better.”
