PM Modi Celebrates Gulveer Singhs Historic Achievement at Commonwealth Games 2026

New Delhi, August 2: India showcased an impressive performance on the 10th day of the Commonwealth Games 2026, bringing home a total of 16 medals, including 7 golds. Indian athlete Gulveer Singh made history by winning both silver and bronze medals in long-distance races. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Gulveer on this remarkable achievement.

In a message on his social media platform ‘X’, the Prime Minister praised Gulveer, stating, “Gulveer Singh has made history. He won the bronze medal in the men’s 5000 meters at the Commonwealth Games 2026. Congratulations to him! With this outstanding performance, he has become the first Indian athlete to win two athletics medals in a single Commonwealth Games. He is also the first Indian to win a medal in the men’s 5000 meters at the Commonwealth Games. This is indeed a significant achievement for Indian athletics. I wish him all the best.”

PM Modi also commended the performance of Indian boxers. He congratulated Ankush Panghal for winning gold and Narendra for securing silver. On ‘X’, he expressed, “I am very happy that Narendra Berwal won the silver medal in the men’s 90+ kg boxing event at the Commonwealth Games. Congratulations to him for showing tremendous courage and determination throughout the competition. I hope he achieves many more successes in the future.”

Ankush Panghal’s gold medal win in the men’s 80 kg boxing category was a source of pride. His strength and skill during the games were truly commendable. Best wishes for his future endeavors. It is hoped that his success will inspire many young boxers to perform excellently.”

The Prime Minister also congratulated Unnati Sharma for winning bronze in judo, stating, “Another success for India in judo. Congratulations to Unnati Sharma for winning the bronze medal in the women’s 63 kg category at the Commonwealth Games 2026. Her dedication and determination during the games were clearly evident. I hope she continues to excel in all her future efforts.”
