Patna, August 1: The results of the Bankipur Assembly by-election are yet to be announced, but tensions within Bihar’s Grand Alliance have already surfaced, particularly between the Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
Congress spokesperson Asitnath Tiwari has openly questioned the electoral strategy of the RJD and its leader Tejashwi Yadav. He emphasized that despite being the largest party in the Grand Alliance, the RJD has failed to effectively leverage the INDIA coalition in the Bankipur by-election. Tiwari stated that since the RJD is the principal constituent of the INDIA alliance in Bihar, it bears the greatest responsibility.
He accused the RJD of not demonstrating a united front for the Grand Alliance or the INDIA coalition throughout the campaign. Tiwari expressed confusion over why this lack of unity occurred, suggesting that Tejashwi Yadav may not have shown sufficient interest in the matter.
Reflecting on the previous assembly elections, Tiwari noted that there were instances of “friendly fights” on several seats, leading to various discussions in political circles. He claimed that there are now discussions within the RJD regarding a possible internal understanding with the BJP, although he did not provide any concrete evidence to support this claim.
Tiwari also pointed out that there appears to be a fragmentation within the RJD’s traditional Muslim-Yadav (M-Y) vote bank during the Bankipur by-election. According to him, Tejashwi Yadav has not been successful in managing his traditional social coalition effectively.
He further alleged that the RJD leadership has shown a lack of interest in strengthening the alliance. Tiwari mentioned that various discussions and rumors are circulating within the Grand Alliance, but the RJD leadership has not been able to clarify or address these issues.
Following Tiwari’s remarks, new discussions have emerged in Bihar’s opposition politics. However, there has been no immediate official response from the RJD regarding these statements.
