
Hyderabad, March 14: Telangana’s IT and Industries Minister D. Shridhar Babu announced on Saturday that the state is ready to provide technical cooperation and institutional support to assist Tanzania in its efforts to transform its digital economy.
The minister made this offer during a meeting at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat with a high-level delegation led by Tanzania’s Minister of Communications, ICT, and Innovation, Mudrick Ramadhani Soraga. Both parties discussed opportunities to strengthen collaboration between Telangana and Tanzania across various sectors.
Shridhar Babu stated that Telangana will prepare a roadmap for strategic cooperation in areas such as information technology, tourism, healthcare, life sciences, emerging technologies, digital governance, digital public infrastructure, startups, innovation ecosystems, and skill development.
Highlighting the state’s progress in digital transformation, he noted that Telangana has established a strong reputation for technology-driven governance and innovation. He remarked, “Digital transformation has become a key driver of inclusive social and economic development. Telangana is ready to share its experiences, technical expertise, and institutional knowledge to support Tanzania’s efforts in building a digital economy.”
The minister also mentioned that the state would explore the feasibility of establishing a pharmaceutical distribution center in Tanzania to aid in the supply of medicines and healthcare products.
He emphasized that Telangana could act as a knowledge partner in areas such as citizen service delivery through ‘Meeseva’, promoting women’s entrepreneurship via ‘WE Hub’, and strengthening the startup and innovation ecosystem. Additionally, support could be extended for skill development, reskilling, and advanced skill development programs through the ‘Young India Skills University’.
Shridhar Babu further stated that Telangana would study best practices adopted by Tanzania in sectors like the ‘Blue Economy’ and tourism to assess their relevance for the state.
During the meeting, Soraga expressed Tanzania’s eagerness to collaborate with progressive regions like Telangana to advance its digital economy ambitions. He found the state’s achievements in IT, healthcare, medical tourism, digital governance, startups, and life sciences to be inspiring.
He added that Tanzania plans to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Telangana soon to formalize the collaboration. The meeting was attended by Fatima Mabruk Khamis, Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Communications, ICT, and Innovation of Tanzania; Shukuru Awadh Suleiman, CEO of the Zanzibar ICT Authority; John Mahundi, Head of Technology and Investment at the President’s Delivery Bureau; and other senior officials.
