Raipur, August 30: In a significant breakthrough in the anti-Naxal operations in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, a joint team from the Basaguda police station and the District Reserve Guard (DRG) has uncovered a large Naxalite dump in the Pegadapalli forest. The police seized a substantial amount of explosives during this operation.
On August 29, during the operation in the forest area of Pegadapalli village, a suspicious individual named Bogam Lakhmu (39 years old, resident of Chinnagelur, Tarrem police station) was apprehended. During interrogation, he confessed to being a member of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) organization and admitted to transporting Naxalite materials and explosives.
The search yielded a cash amount of ₹50,050, one BGL launcher, 18 BGL cells, 12 arrow bombs, one hand grenade, 15 live rounds of .303 ammunition, 31 BGL cartridges, one empty INSAS magazine, electric wire, three round chargers, and one e-meter lead. The police have properly sealed the recovered items and prepared a panchnama.
Superintendent of Police Umesh Prasad Gupta stated that continuous operations are being conducted in the district to effectively curb Naxalite activities. This success is part of that ongoing effort. The arrested individual has been presented before the court under relevant sections of the Explosive Substances Act, and further investigation and actions related to this case are underway.
Additionally, a similar incident was reported on Saturday from Sukma district in Chhattisgarh, where security forces discovered a large Naxalite dump during a joint operation in the Bhindarpur and Munurakonda hilly forest area, recovering a significant quantity of weapons, ammunition, and explosive materials.
