Hyderabad, June 17: Telangana’s Minority Welfare Minister Mohammad Azharuddin urged citizens to remain vigilant during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the state.
He highlighted concerns regarding the removal of a significant number of minority voters’ names from the electoral rolls in states like West Bengal, Assam, and Bihar during similar revisions.
Azharuddin emphasized that the SIR has caused considerable harm in those regions. He assured that the Congress party is committed to ensuring that no legitimate voter is removed from the voter list. He encouraged people to stay alert during this process and to submit all necessary documents to prevent their names from being omitted.
The minister spoke to the media after listening to grievances at the state Congress headquarters, Gandhi Bhavan. He reported receiving over 200 complaints from the public. Azharuddin stated that he has been working to address these issues by communicating with the relevant authorities. He claimed that 50 complaints were resolved immediately after discussions with the district collector.
The former Indian cricket captain noted that the Congress government is dedicated to serving the poor. He praised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for his hard work towards the development of Telangana.
Azharuddin mentioned that Mahesh Kumar Goud, president of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), is organizing a successful program at Gandhi Bhavan. The minister meets with the public weekly to accept petitions and resolve complaints. This initiative, named ‘Prajaalatho Mukhamukhi’ (Face-to-Face), was launched by the TPCC chief for the upcoming 2024 elections.
He criticized leaders of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), claiming they are attacking the Congress government merely because they are in opposition. Azharuddin accused BRS leaders of making baseless allegations to distract the public.
