Hyderabad, March 18: The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested two government employees in connection with a corruption case. The individuals apprehended are Gundeti Ramu, an excise inspector, and Jakkani Venu, a secondary grade teacher from Jagitial district.
According to the ACB, Ramu, during his tenure as the station house officer in Vemulawada from 2022 to 2024, regularly accepted bribes from a jaggery trader through his friend and former colleague, Venu, via UPI transactions. Venu transferred the bribe amounts from his SBI and UPI accounts to those of Ramu and Ramu’s father.
The ACB identified regular financial transactions, indicating that Venu’s account was used as a conduit to conceal the source of illegal funds. During a search of Ramu’s residence, the agency seized unaccounted cash amounting to 2 million rupees.
The ACB stated that Ramu improperly utilized Venu as a proxy to receive bribes, engaging in dishonest conduct. Both arrested government employees will be presented before the special judge for ACB cases in Karimnagar. The investigation is ongoing.
For safety reasons, the details of the complainant have been kept confidential. The agency has urged the public to report any instances of bribery by public servants by contacting the toll-free number 1064.
In 2025, the ACB registered a total of 199 cases, leading to the arrest of 273 individuals. Among these cases, 157 were related to fraud, resulting in the arrest of 224 accused, including 176 government employees. Additionally, there were 15 cases concerning disproportionate assets against government officials and 26 other cases related to criminal misconduct by public servants, leading to the arrest of 34 individuals.
Furthermore, the agency conducted 26 regular investigations into corruption allegations and carried out 54 surprise inspections across various offices, including sub-registrar offices, RTA check posts, and welfare hostels.
