The weather in Noida and surrounding areas took an unexpected turn on Wednesday, providing relief from the intense heat. However, a dust storm accompanied by light rain significantly impacted daily life.
In the evening, clouds suddenly covered the sky, and strong winds kicked up a dust storm. Light rain was recorded in several areas following the storm. The dust storm had the most severe effect on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and other major roads, where flying dust drastically reduced visibility.
This led to a slowdown in vehicle speeds, with traffic crawling in many places. Due to the abrupt weather change, drivers had to turn on their headlights. According to the meteorological department, this shift in weather in Delhi-NCR was caused by a western disturbance and a change in wind direction.
The wind speed could reach between 30 to 50 km/h, creating conditions for a dust storm. Experts noted that dry winds coming from Rajasthan and Pakistan also carry dust, leading to a hazy situation across the region.
Local residents reported that the storm was so intense that branches from trees broke off in several areas, while dust raised from open fields and construction sites worsened the conditions. Fortunately, the subsequent light rain helped settle some of the dust and brought a drop in temperature.
The meteorological department had already issued a yellow alert for the next few days, predicting rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms. While this weather change has provided some relief from the heat, the dust storm has increased difficulties for travelers.
Experts advised people to avoid unnecessary travel during the storm, secure vehicles and loose items outdoors, and exercise caution while driving. Similar weather conditions are expected in the coming days, indicating continued fluctuations in the weather of NCR.
