NIA Files Charges Against Three PLA Terrorists in Assam Rifles Truck Attack

New Delhi, March 19: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed charges against three members of the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA) in connection with the Assam Rifles truck attack. This incident resulted in the deaths of two paramilitary personnel in Manipur last year.

The charges were submitted to a special NIA court located in Imphal, Manipur. The accused face multiple counts under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Arms Act, the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, and the Explosive Substances Act.

The three accused have been identified as Thongram Sadanand Singh, also known as Nagachik or Purakpa, Khundongbam Oji Meitei, also known as Keilal, and Irengbam Jugindra Meitei, also known as Jugin Meitei. All of them are residents of Manipur and have already been arrested by law enforcement agencies.

The attack on the 33 Assam Rifles truck occurred in September 2025 at Nambol Sabal Leikai in the Bishnupur district of Manipur. This assault was part of a PLA conspiracy aimed at instilling fear among the populace and destabilizing the Indian government.

NIA investigations revealed that on the day of the attack, PLA operatives, armed with prohibited weapons and explosives, gathered at the Nambol Sabal Leikai intersection and ambushed the truck. The attack severely damaged the vehicle, resulting in the deaths of two Assam Rifles personnel and leaving five others critically injured.

The NIA took over the investigation from local police in November 2025.
