Bengaluru, March 30: The Karnataka Congress government is facing criticism from the BJP over its decision to allocate IPL tickets to legislators and MPs. Tejasvi Surya, the national president of the BJP Youth Wing and MP from Bengaluru South, mocked the government’s actions, stating, “This will be considered the biggest achievement of this government so far.”
Surya took to social media platform X to express his sarcasm, saying, “Indeed, this is a historic day for Karnataka.” He congratulated the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister for successfully navigating this complex negotiation, claiming it would benefit the six crore people of Karnataka. He humorously suggested that their expertise could also be applied to resolve international conflicts like those between Ukraine and Russia or Iran and Israel.
His remarks were in response to Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s announcement that the ticket allocation issue for IPL matches had been resolved. Now, legislators and MPs will receive three tickets instead of the previous four. Additionally, two free tickets will be available for international matches, with extra tickets needing to be purchased.
Shivakumar mentioned that he had previously discussed this matter with the Speaker and senior leaders. Representatives from Royal Challengers Bengaluru, DNA Network, and KSCA were also involved in the discussions, which included KSCA president and former Indian fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad.
He added, “If anyone does not want tickets, they can submit a letter. Legislators make many requests, and not all can be fulfilled. The matter has now been resolved.”
It is noteworthy that this issue was raised in the Karnataka Assembly last week. Speaker U.T. Khader urged the government to discuss with relevant officials and establish a clear policy, ensuring that each legislator receives at least four tickets. The legislators agreed with his suggestion.
