Patna, April 8: Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the opposition in the Bihar Assembly, launched a scathing attack on the state’s health department on Wednesday. He criticized Health Minister Mangal Pandey, stating that the Bihar health department is afflicted by “Amangal Dosh,” turning it into a hellish scenario.
Yadav, the national executive president of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), issued a statement highlighting the dire conditions in Bihar’s hospitals. He pointed out the absence of doctors, cotton, syringes, medicines, and even beds. Alarmingly, he noted that patients often lack wheelchairs, forcing them to be transported on bicycles, makeshift beds, or scooters.
He further stated, “Under this unfortunate government, the entire health system in Bihar has collapsed. The BJP-JDU government should explain why these facilities can still be called hospitals when there are no doctors, wheelchairs, medicines, or health workers available.”
Yadav questioned the efficacy of merely constructing buildings and labeling them as medical colleges and hospitals. He emphasized that without hiring doctors, nurses, and lab technicians, these structures would only serve as empty shells.
He accused the NDA government of being indifferent to the plight of the poor, focusing instead on power and corruption rather than the welfare of Bihar. According to him, government hospitals have become mere referral points, directing patients to private facilities.
In discussing the previous Mahagathbandhan government, Yadav claimed that during his tenure as health minister, positive changes were made in the health department. However, he alleged that these improvements have been disregarded by corrupt officials, who have now handed the health system back to brokers and medical mafias.
