Delhi Chief Minister Warns Against Political Disruption Amid Protests

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta condemns protests, warns against disrupting public peace and safety in the capital.

New Delhi, October 10 (Daily Kiran) : Chief Minister Rekha Gupta of Delhi issued a strong statement on Saturday, accusing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, and the CJP of threatening the peace and security of the city’s residents for political gain. She emphasized that the capital would not be held hostage to political agendas.

Gupta declared a firm commitment to combat chaos disguised as democracy and to uphold the public mandate. She stated, “It is clear: Delhi will not be allowed to become a hostage.”

The Chief Minister vowed that no one would be permitted to disrupt the order in the national capital. She claimed that leaders rejected by the citizens, like Gandhi and Kejriwal, along with their ‘B-team’ CJP, are attempting to turn Delhi into a battleground.

In a post on X, Gupta questioned the motives of these leaders: “Why are they intent on unleashing their frustration from continuous defeats on the public? What fault do the residents of Delhi have in facing disorder on the streets?”

She continued, “Who will take responsibility for the troubles faced by workers, commuters, and patients trying to reach hospitals? Are your political ambitions more important than the livelihoods, safety, and peace of millions of families in Delhi?”

Gupta reminded that the city had voted for development. She pointed out that Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister for the third consecutive time due to unprecedented public support. However, she criticized parties plagued by dynastic politics and opportunism for failing to accept this mandate.

The Chief Minister accused Kejriwal of attempting to disrupt the peace and security of Delhi residents for political purposes, asserting, “Delhi will not be allowed to be held hostage. There will be a strong fight against the politics that spreads chaos under the guise of democracy.”

Authorities reported that over a thousand protesters were detained from various parts of the capital as they attempted to join a demonstration organized by the CJP. This protest aimed to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged discrepancies in the ‘Special Intensive Revision’ of the voter list.

In response to the planned protests, more than 30,000 police and paramilitary personnel were deployed throughout the capital. Around 45 metro stations near Jantar Mantar were closed, internet services were suspended in central Delhi, barricades were erected, and traffic restrictions were enforced on several routes starting from 6 AM. Schools, colleges, and courts were also compelled to switch to online operations for the day.
