Ramdas Athawale Criticizes CJP Protests as Unconstitutional

New Delhi, October 10 (Daily Kiran) : Central Minister Ramdas Athawale has spoken out against the protests organized by the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) at Jantar Mantar, where demonstrators are demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Athawale labeled the protests as unconstitutional and a call for chaos, asserting that the police action against the demonstrators is justified.

Athawale emphasized that the protesters have no right to demand Kumar’s resignation. He noted that according to the Constitution crafted by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the Chief Election Commissioner operates independently from the government. The commission’s role includes preparing accurate electoral lists, removing incorrect names, and ensuring every citizen has the right to vote.

He criticized Rahul Gandhi’s claims that 130 million votes were invalidated, suggesting that such accusations arise primarily from areas where Congress candidates have lost. Athawale challenged Gandhi to provide evidence of vote theft, pointing out that the President has requested such proof, indicating that no vote theft should occur.

The minister explained that of the 130 million votes in question, 60 million belong to individuals who have moved to different locations and are therefore removed from the electoral rolls in their previous areas. Additionally, he mentioned that 30 million names are of people who have never voted, while 20 million are deceased. He argued that the removal of names from the list is justified and based on factual circumstances.

Athawale cautioned against the protests, suggesting they incite disorder and violence. He recalled that during the Congress government, his supporters faced similar crackdowns. He urged for peaceful demonstrations, stating that protesting against the Constitution is unacceptable.

The minister reiterated that accusations of vote theft arise only when the ruling party is successful. He emphasized the importance of stability in the country, stating that the government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi is focused on development. He concluded that the CJP’s current protests are failing, as police have successfully intervened at various locations.

Athawale’s remarks come as tensions rise over electoral integrity and the role of the Election Commission, highlighting the ongoing political discourse in India.
