
Chennai, May 18: The Tamil film industry is in mourning following the passing of veteran producer, director, actor, and film distributor K. Rajan. His death has sparked an outpouring of grief within the film community. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has issued a condolence message expressing his sorrow over Rajan’s demise.
In his message, Chief Minister Vijay stated, “I was deeply saddened to hear about K. Rajan’s passing. He was a strong and outspoken figure in the Tamil film industry, contributing significantly for decades.”
Vijay emphasized that Rajan was a persistent advocate for the rights of small filmmakers and distributors. “He always voiced his opinions candidly about the direction and future of Tamil cinema,” he added.
The Chief Minister noted that Rajan’s contributions over the years would be remembered. “The Tamil film industry will never forget his work and struggles,” he remarked, extending his heartfelt condolences to Rajan’s family, friends, and those connected to Tamil cinema.
Following the news of Rajan’s death, many have expressed their sorrow. Reports indicate that the 85-year-old passed away in Chennai. Allegations suggest he may have taken his own life by jumping into a river from the Adyar Bridge. The fire and rescue team later recovered his body, while police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
Numerous prominent figures in the film industry have taken to social media to express their grief. Actress and politician Khushbu Sundar remarked on X, “This is extremely sad and shocking news. K. Rajan was an honorable and truthful person. He always spoke his mind without fear and addressed industry issues openly.”
Actor and politician R. Sarathkumar also expressed his deep sorrow over Rajan’s passing. “K. Rajan, who made a strong mark in Tamil cinema since the 1980s, is a tremendous loss to the entire industry. My heartfelt condolences to his family,” he stated.
Reflecting on K. Rajan’s film career, he began his journey as a producer with the film ‘Brahmacharigal’ in 1983. He produced several films under his banner ‘Ganesh Cine Arts.’ Besides producing, he was also active in directing and acting, directing films like ‘Unachigal’ and appearing in movies such as ‘Dabbles,’ ‘Aval Paavam,’ ‘Michael Raj,’ ‘Thunivu,’ and ‘Bakasuran.’
