Syed Aga Ruhullah Expresses Pain Over Party Struggles, Faces Daily Resignation Demands

Srinagar, August 23: Syed Aga Ruhullah, a Member of Parliament from the JKNC, openly discussed the internal conflicts within his party. He stated that he has received a mandate from the people and is fighting for their rights, yet he faces daily demands for his resignation. Ruhullah emphasized that the party has weakened its own struggle and is creating an unfavorable atmosphere against him without any notice, leading to confusion among party workers.

Ruhullah Mehdi remarked, “I have tried to advocate for the issues of the public, for which I was given the authority. I did not just receive a party ticket; the people granted me this right. I have made efforts both inside and outside Parliament, on the streets, at the Constitution Club, and Jantar Mantar. I have also attempted to lobby with other parties. Every day, I am told to resign. I want them to support me in the fight we are waging, for which the people voted. They have weakened this struggle themselves.”

The JKNC MP pointed out that the hard work, lobbying, and issues for which he received a mandate are reflected even at the Constitution Club, where nearly all opposition parties sent their members. He noted that restoring the state’s status will not resolve Jammu and Kashmir’s issues. The status of Kashmir must be restored according to the wishes of its people, and constitutional guarantees and protections must be reinstated. Engagement with the public is essential, and he has worked based on the mandate he received.

He criticized the party’s leadership for failing to establish accountability. “At the very least, they could issue a notice asking me why I allegedly violated party rules and ideology in specific instances. This atmosphere has been created against me. Senior party members do not speak directly; they have others do it for them. This has caused confusion among our own ranks.”

On the issue of reservations, Ruhullah Mehdi stated, “Earlier this year, when we tried to protest, raids were conducted on student hostels. This frightened them. Students had expressed their intention to hold a press conference with the media. They were intimidated. I told them not to be afraid. You can come to my house and speak with the media; that’s why I posted that they should overcome their fear.”

He further asserted that he will ensure no one has the courage to impose the PSA or UAPA. If students peacefully assert their rights, he will stand with them. “One day, we must eliminate this fear. Protesting is our right. They should have courage; I will be there with them. Parents should also join the students in this fight. I have not abandoned this struggle.”
