
Jaipur, August 22: A tragic incident occurred at the Rajasthan Atomic Power Station in Rawatbhata, Chittorgarh district, where a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel lost his life due to a gunshot wound while on duty. The police are investigating all aspects of the case.
Initial reports indicate that the sound of gunfire caused panic among security personnel. When fellow officers arrived at the duty post outside the reactor buildings of Units 3 and 4, they found 25-year-old Prameer Sarkar lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his chest.
He was immediately rushed to the hospital at the atomic energy station, where doctors pronounced him dead. The body has been placed in the mortuary, and a post-mortem will be conducted after the arrival of his family from West Bengal.
Upon receiving news of the incident, the CISF Commandant, Deputy Commandant, and Rawatbhata police arrived at the scene to begin their investigation. Officials are trying to determine how the shooting occurred. According to Sanjeev Swami, the officer in charge of Rawatbhata police station, the soldier was found dead at his duty post due to a gunshot wound.
Police reports indicate that Prameer Sarkar was armed with an INSAS rifle at the time of the incident. However, it remains unclear under what circumstances the shot was fired. CISF officials have also stated that it is not yet confirmed whether the firing was from his service rifle and how the incident transpired.
The situation is expected to become clearer following the investigation and the post-mortem report.
The family of the deceased soldier has been informed about the incident. Prameer Sarkar joined the CISF in 2025 and was deployed to Rawatbhata approximately six months ago. He had been assigned night duty for security at the reactor building from 8:30 PM to 5:00 AM on Friday night, and he was shot about half an hour before his shift ended.
Police and security agencies continue to investigate the matter. The exact cause of death will be determined after the investigation and post-mortem report are available.
